Description:
Eris and Maya are two of the most experienced professional rope models in Europe and they are coming to town to show you what they've learned!

Miss Eris being one of the smallest riggers out there - rigging professionally for shows and classes - is faced with unique challenges when tying because the vast majority (if not all!) the people she ties are taller, bigger, larger & heavier than herself. This means she has had to engineer smart and energy efficient ways of tying (both body-wise and rope-wise) so that she can safely place her models in full suspension.

Maya's yoga background makes one of the most body aware models we can think of, and her vast experience inside the ropes means she has accumulated a lot of tips and tricks to navigate her body in suspension and in suspension transitions. In the workshop she will be sharing her knowledge!

Together, Eris and Maya make an exciting and knowledgeable rope duo, which is sure to make this workshop one very unique experience!
About

Eris got started in the shibari scene in 2012 as a full-time professional model. After meeting her partner "MacPhisto" she very quickly became immersed in the European rope scene, and has attended workshops by almost every well-known Japanese rigger, including Kazami Ranki, Kinoko Hajime and Pedro.

As well as modelling in rope, Eris is also an experienced rigger. Measuring in at slightly under 160cm tall, and weighing less than 45 kg means that Eris has become one the most experienced riggers at tying people much larger than herself! The smallest model she has ever tied is Gorgone. Through this, Eris has developed many techniques to manager her own energy levels to tie heavier people, making her a unique resource in the current rope scene.

### Pre-requisites

Important: this class has pre-requisites for riggers and rope bottoms:

• Riggers must know at the absolute minimum how to comfortably tie a structural two rope Takate Kote taught to you in a class, workshop or private tuition and should be familiar on how to properly lock off suspension mainlines. You’ll get the most out of the workshop if you are already comfortable with suspension.

• Rope bottoms should have some experience with suspension, and comfortable being in a Takate Kote (two or three rope). All models should be familiar with the differences between nerve and circulation impingement and be able to communicate effectively with their riggers.

Program

1 - The Suspended Body

[Demo, Explanation, Exercise]

• Eris will tie Maya in full suspension and walk you through each of their choices from the rigger and model perspective. Eris will demonstrate some simple transition ideas that require minimal rope and minimal energy, and Maya will explain her choices from inside the rope (body movement, posture etc).

The point of this first exercise is to think about suspension in terms of model comfort as well as rigger comfort - i.e. how to use the least effort as possible to try to make the “rope ride" more fun.

2 - Rising and Falling

[Demo, Explanation, Exercise]

• Eris and Maya will show how to suspend your model from the floor up, passing through a semi-suspension before moving into full suspension and transitions, and then slowly back down again (creating a full loop from ground to air to ground again).

Eris will also introduce how take down a model in the most effective way for everyone, in the sense that it looks good, is comfortable, safe and practical too. Eris will also teach a few body movement tricks and techniques about how put your model on the floor before tying.

3 - Moving in Transition

[Demo, Explanation, Exercise]

• Eris will tie Maya up in a few positions they will together explore Maya’s body movement choices and how the rigger can make choices based on the model. They also will show a few of their own personal tricks that they like to use in transitions without making any rope changes or by making only very minimal changes to the rope. This is something they like to explore in their shows. This is useful to learn because it forces riggers and models to think outside the box to get creative in the air. Maya will explain about her body positions, possibilities, difficulties, she will also give tips and help other models get the maximum potential out of their ties.

4 - Smooth Take Downs

[Demo, Explanation]

• A more in depth discussion and explanation about taking models down from suspension. Safety, efficiency, comfort.

5 - ‘Physics’

[Demo, Explanation]

• Eris and Maya will share their tips to be more efficient in moving bodies (on the ground and in the air) to minimise energy loss, maximise productivity and staying safe.
