Event description
There is a lot written about connection between rope partners and how all the interesting Shibari is all about the connection. However, connection goes beyond being close to your partner. During the workshop DJfet will endeavour to delve into the psychological perspective of rope, the effects it has on us, and the different individual approaches to rope.
Introduction:
To gain some understanding at our levels of understanding and knowledge gaps within the group and ourselves.
Session 1:
What makes rope so therapeutic? From birth to death there is a process of socially acceptable binding and that leaves an imprint in our psyche. Unpacking and taking a closer look at touch and restriction throughout life stages and how touch and restriction can have a direct influence on our mood and mental state. From this we will touch on bondage and its use within common mental ailments such as low mood, anxiety, and loneliness.
Please note that this is not to advocate bondage over seeking advice from your GP nor does this advocate bondage over medication or other therapeutic regimes as set out by your mental health team.
Session 2:
Stereotypes are an essential way for us to make sense and understand our world around us. Rather than being the 'bad' thing they are marketed to us, we will be examining social stereotypes including gender stereotypes, what they mean to us, and why they are so valuable in understanding our individual worlds. From that we will look at the stereotypes within the BDSM community: Top/bottom, Dom/sub, Master/slave. What the core values of these roles are and why people assume them. The purpose of this is not just to know your partner but to really get to know and understand your own motivations for the roles that you take on. From there it will be how we can incorporate this with our partners needs and desires.
[Lunch break]
Session 3:
"Different approaches, same activities, different headspace." Attempting to understand why an individual may do the same activity as someone else but get different pleasure from it and a different psychological kick.
Session 4:
Rope! There will be rope at various points during the day but this is an opportunity to pull together all learnt knowledge and apply it to your rope partner.

Q&A - a free house to ask any questions about the day or residual questions about rope and personal experience.
Skill level required
None. Minimum knowledge: An enquiring mind.
