Gestalta is a kinbaku model, rigger and self suspension artist. She was first introduced to kinbaku in 2007 and her early exposure was mainly based around photoshoots with riggers including Rod Macdonald, Wykd Dave, and Mark Varley.
Description and Program
The term “strappado” has it’s roots in a form of medieval torture. There is no official term for it in Japan, although it is used by the Japanese and could be described as “sakate” (simply ‘reverse hands’) or “kagerou” (mayfly).
In this workshop I will teach you a variety of different versions of the strappado tie, from the relatively comfortable, to the more torturous. You will be shown how to use this versatile tie for floor based semenawa play and how to use it to safely suspend.
Program:
shoulder warm up
a demonstration of variations on the strappado tie
floor ties for semenawa using the strappado
safely suspending using the strappado
a variety of different suspension possibilities with this tie
(practical exercises will vary depending on the level of the class, and also according to what your model is most comfortable with)
Skill level required
Minimum knowledge of:
Single and Double Column Ties
Some experience with either full or partial suspension (safe locking of suspension lines)
Although I will not be using one in this class, understanding a 2 rope TK (gote / box tie) and the frictions used in it will be useful for other ties.
